Our History

Situated beside the Murray River, the Overland Corner Hotel was once an important stopping place for the paddle boats, overlanders and drovers travelling between New South Wales, Victoria and their colony in Adelaide in the early 19th century.

Since then it has been an important stopping point throughout the years, and even housed a police station, horse staging building, blacksmith’s, post office and a general store at various points.

The Hotel

The OC is the oldest building in the Riverland and was first used as a hotel in 1860. Local folk tales have it that a bushranger and his band roamed the area around Overland Corner stealing cattle. One story claims that the gang came to Overland Corner and, after stopping at the police station to take the precaution of locking the police in the cells, retired to the Overland Corner Hotel. It is said that the leader of the gang rode his horse right into the bar and demanded the front and back doors be open when they were drinking in the pub.

Hospitality

The hotel is now long been known for its warm hospitality and entertainment, in an environment that’s dripping with history.

With the biggest beer garden in the Riverland, a quaint dining room with two open log fires, a wine rack, piles of memorabilia and a fully licensed bar, The OC Hotel is the perfect place to while away the hours with friends and family, and great food and drink for the lunch.
